Joelee drops PFAT (

SINCE her years as a model with the Pulse and Saint International agencies, Joelee Smith dared to be different. She took a similar approach seven years ago when she entered the music business as singer Joelee.

Joelee is currently promoting PFAT, a raunchy single that blends the hip hop and dancehall sounds she was weaned on.

That mix has worked for several Jamaican acts, including Shabba Ranks and Cobra, but Joelee said she puts her own stamp on

PFAT and earlier songs like Model Chic, produced by DAGCK Records.

“I’m a non-conformist, so I just want to bring a different thing to the music. I like anything I do to stand out,” said the slender artiste.

She considers PFAT her best performing song to date. It has enjoyed play on Power 105 in New York and Chicago’s Power 102.

A promotional trek of the United States’ East Coast and North Carolina four years ago, for Model Chic, opened her eyes to how the music business functions.

“Its not easy. You have to put in a lot of hard work because the competition is so fierce,” she said.

Joelee grew up listening to fellow St Mary acts Lady Saw and Capleton. She was also drawn to rappers such as the Notorious BIG, and more recently Lil Wayne.

After modelling for over 10 years, she switched to music in 2009. Her first song was Fret.

Model Chic and So Sexy followed, setting the tone for PFAT. Love Letter, her latest song, also produced by DAGCK, was recently released
